Infantry, point man in Vietnam.

>6.Under what circumstances did you decide to join the military?

I volunteered to be drafted a few months before my notice would have come in the mail.  I wanted to get it over with.

>7.What do you feel are some of the advantages of being in military service?

Life is pretty much controlled, if you do things you like, it can be fun, you can get educated in the service, good medical and retirement benefits.

>8.What do you feel are some of the sacrifices one must make to be in military service?

You often don't get to do what you want.  In war, the best and worst come out in people, you can loose friends and end up doing a job you hate.

>9.What do you feel was your greatest contributions in serving the united states?

I saved a lot of lives when I walked point.  Only one time did I walk into an ambush - that was terrible.

>10.Do you have an interesting story that you would like to share regarding your experience in the military?

I couldn't verbalize my stories, they would always stick in my throat and choke me up.  My wife encouraged me to write them down for our son.  They flowed out on paper and were published under the title, "Not Ehough Tears."

>11.Do you have any additional thoughts that you would like to share?

I was no John Wayne, God had to intervien several time to same my live.  I take no credit for surviving the war when so many around me didn't.
