Chuck, I would like to join Dave in asking where these figures came from, and join Pat in expressing doubt.  In particular:

On Thu Sep 17, Chuck Gutzman  wrote
...

>· 1,713,823 of those who served in Vietnam were still alive as of August, 1995 (census figures).

I would be very suspicious of this regardless of what the number was. I don't think the U.S. Census made any effort to count the number of Vietnam veterans who were alive as of August 1995.

>· During that same Census count, the number of Americans falsely claiming to have served in-country was: 9,492,958.

Even more suspicious, again regardless of the number.  I flatly do not believe the U.S. Census has ever made any effort to count the number of people who falsely claim to have served in Vietnam.
