Tim Duffie's Background

Born in Zanesville, Ohio, grew up in Gary, Indiana and West Alexandria, Ohio.

After two years of college, I enlisted in the Marines in 1966. I was sent to Vietnam in November, 1966, where I served with "India Co.", 3rd. Bn, 3rd. Marine Division. At the time, we were stationed just northeast of the "Rockpile" in Quang Tri Province, approximately 1,000 yards south of the Demilitarized Zone.

In February, 1967, I volunteered for the new "Combined Action Company (CAC)" program. Along with 14 other Marines & one Navy Corpsman, we moved into a small hamlet just south of Dong Ha. The hamlet was called "Phuoc My". I lived there with the Vietnamese people of the hamlet until I was wounded in July, 1967.

The story of the Combined Action Platoons can be seen at:

Also, the story of my life in the hamlet, as well as the story of my return in 1996, is posted on the Vietnam Veterans Home Page @
