I enlisted as a private in the army in 1966, went to infantry OCS in '67, was graduated second lieutenant in '68, and served in Vietnam as an infantry platoon leader with Company A, 1st Battalion, 52d Infantry, 198th Light Infantry Brigade, Americal Division, from Dec 68 until Mar 69, when I was wounded twice by machine-gun fire.
I attended the University of South Alabama and the University of West Florida, majoring in communication arts. I left the university late in my senior year to accept a position as managing Editor of the Gulfcoast Business Journal. I've written for several newspapers and magazines over the years, and wrote a local history text under a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Most of my writing has been about history and anthropology.
I receive 100% total and permanent service connected disability from the Veterans Administration for wounds and PTSD.
I'll be happy to answer any seriously motivated questions about my experience as a combat soldier in Vietnam.
